February 2001 trip to Parc du Mont-Tremblant
Pictures from the successor to our trip to the
Parc du Mont-Tremblant of last year. Click on one of the
thumbnails to see a larger image.
Day 1: Bob Melville and I had convinced our colleague Sharad Kapur and
his wife Stella Kang to come along. Neither had ever been
cross-country skiing before, so we figured we should try to teach them
a little. Whether we were more help or harm is another question :-).
Also along was Steve Reiss, another cross-country novice.
-
After our early morning trip to get familiar with standing up.
-
Perhaps the photographer, who shall remain anonymous, could also use
some lessons in standing up :-).
-
The graduation picture; everyone did very well and is still in one
piece.
Day 2: The trip to Mount Johannsen. Normally we would do this ski on
Tuesday, but it looked like it might be getting dangerously close to
freezing then, so we went on Monday instead.
-
Waiting for the group to coalesce before heading up to the summit.
-
About halfway to the summit, at the lookout near Pangman's Peak. The
day was overcast and snowy, so the view wasn't very good.
-
At the summit, someone had build a very elaborate three-room
igloo.
-
Feeding the Canada jays that hang around to mooch off people like
us.
-
Congregating again down near the bottom of the mountain before
starting the ski around back to the north side of the Tremblant
downhill ski area.
-
It was snowing nicely near the bottom, and we had to work some to
break the trail.
-
Back at the ski area, it's a junk food feeding frenzy.
Day 3: Bob, Conor Rafferty, Aaron Stern and I skied to the cabin at
Lac Ernie.
-
Clowning around at the scenic lookout on the way there.
-
Bob at the cabin, nerding out by trying to order some electronic
parts.
-
``Aha! The UPB1506GV-ND prescaler should be perfect!'' Sadly, Bob's
cell phone didn't work from the cabin...
-
A view of the lake.
-
Carlos and Victoria Perez arrived shortly after us.
-
Ready for the ski back.
-
Bob stops to perform a little trail maintenance with his wire saw.
-
Back at the ski center. But where's Conor?
-
He was out playing with Sandy Shelton, who had built a snow fort under
a picnic table.
